Target Population

Patients needing reconstruction after head and neck cancer ablation, including oral, pharyngeal, facial, and craniofacial defects, especially high-risk cases after chemoradiation or repeated surgery.

Description

The Kaohsiung Chang Gung Head and Neck Cancer Reconstruction Team provides microvascular free flap reconstruction for patients after head and neck tumor ablation. The team integrates multidisciplinary care from plastic surgery, otolaryngology, anesthesia, nursing, nutrition, rehabilitation, and case management. We have established standardized clinical pathways, digital flap monitoring, abnormality reporting systems, patient education tools, nutritional intervention, pain control, and early mobilization strategies. Through this integrated model, postoperative care is transformed from passive recovery to proactive enhanced recovery. The team also continues to develop innovative reconstructive techniques, translational research, international academic collaboration, and professional training. Our goal is to help patients restore appearance, swallowing, speech, airway function, and overall quality of life after head and neck cancer treatment.

Key Highlights

  • Precision microvascular free flap reconstruction to restore appearance, swallowing, speech, and airway function

  • Multidisciplinary integrated care with standardized ERAS pathways for postoperative head and neck cancer reconstruction

  • Digital flap monitoring and reporting systems to enhance real-time assessment and timely intervention

  • Integrated nutritional support, pain control, early mobilization, and diverse patient education tools
