Acute Stroke
The Stroke Care Team adopts a patient-centered approach, integrating neurology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation, nursing, case management, and interdisciplinary professionals to provide comprehensive and continuous stroke care. Beyond acute treatment, the team focuses on patients’ health literacy, psychosocial needs, and family caregiving capacity to improve functional recovery and quality of life. Key innovations include illustrated and multilingual admission and discharge guides, inpatient schedules, health literacy assessments, stroke education materials, and communication tools that enhance understanding of medical information and patient participation in care. In addition, the nursing team pioneered the first Chinese version of the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) in Taiwan, providing a standardized assessment tool for healthcare professionals across Chinese-speaking regions. Nurses play a vital role in acute stroke management, care coordination, patient education, and quality improvement, ensuring patient safety and excellence in stroke care.
Developed a health literacy-oriented stroke care model by creating illustrated and multilingual admission and discharge guides, hospitalization process videos, and multifunctional communication tools. Through visualized and diversified educational strategies, the model enhances patients’ and families’ understanding of medical information and promotes care participation. 2. Pioneered the development of the first Chinese version of the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) in Taiwan, providing healthcare professionals throughout Chinese-speaking regions with a standardized tool for clinical assessment, education, and dissemination, thereby promoting consistency and standardization in stroke evaluation.
The hospital provides care for approximately 4,300 patients with acute ischemic stroke each year.
