Patients with Dengue, Zika, and Tropical Diseases
International Partners (Solomon Islands, India)
Established in 2008, the Tropical Medicine Center at KMUH manages the sole BSL-3 laboratory within the KMU healthcare system. Guided by the spirit of compassion and humanity, the center actively develops education, research, and clinical services. Our core services focus on the prevention and control of dengue fever and emerging diseases. Internationally, we have long been deeply engaged in medical and public health services, including intestinal parasite and dengue control in the Solomon Islands, as well as missions in Tibetan refugee settlements in India. Notably, our extensive experience in dengue management has not only benefited domestic patients but has also been successfully exported to the Solomon Islands. In the Tibetan refugee settlements, our work extends beyond charitable medical clinics to implementing vital public health interventions, such as water quality improvement, HIV/AIDS prevention, vision care, and health education. Looking to the future, global warming will undoubtedly expand and intensify the threat of tropical infectious diseases. By sharing the center’s operational model developed over the past decade, we aim to establish a benchmark for the internationalization of tropical medicine centers in Taiwan.
