All inpatients, outpatients, emergency patients, and community residents under COVID-19 pandemic comprehensive care
Nursing has always been the largest segment of the medical system, committed to patient safety and care quality. Since SARS in 2003, KMUH Department of Nursing has continuously delivered infection control training for 17 years. Following COVID-19, the hospital established an Emergency Response Team on Jan 24, 2020 with twice-daily meetings. Under Director Li-Chin Chen, the nursing team actively engaged in hospital care, community education, school outreach, and institutional consultation, achieving zero in-hospital COVID-19 infection. The team was recognized by the Taiwan Nurses Association at the COVID-19 Nursing Appreciation Conference on Aug 20, 2020.
Rapid and proactive epidemic prevention with twice-daily meetings. 2. Hosted Taiwan's first nursing prevention webinar with 269 online participants from southern medical centers. 3. Comprehensive coverage of OPD/ED, inpatients, negative-pressure rooms, and community with TOCC online questionnaires, NHI VPN integration, and employee care clinics. 4. Complete SOPs and drills for COVID-19 intubation, hemodialysis, bedside X-ray, specimen collection, and remains handling in negative-pressure wards. 5. Established epidemic prevention supply kits and audit procedures. 6. Co-established airport screening station with 6 southern medical centers; assisted JCT nationwide hospital consultation.
Achieved zero in-hospital COVID-19 transmission with 478 thank-you letters received during pandemic.
1,587 nursing staff including 1 director, 3 vice directors, 9 supervisors, 41 head nurses, 22 deputy head nurses; 15 negative-pressure beds with 11 nurses (normal ratio 4.61, activated 1:3, critical 1:1); 71 mobilizable critical care support staff.
7 adult and 2 pediatric ICUs (148 beds total) with sectional protection; staff self-management with daily temperature/cough registration, cloud-based travel monitoring, employee care and overseas return clinics.
Community prevention covered delivery/food industry, student volunteer teams, fire/police agencies, MRT, residential institutions, screening hospitals, port workers, and public health agencies.
Conducted infection control outreach (9/9-10/15) to childcare centers, elderly nursing homes, postpartum centers and schools; shared COVID-19 experience with 4 medical institutions (3/20-9/8).
Served as MOHW Healthcare Institution Counseling Committee member from Jan 16, 2020, assisting JCT nationwide hospital consultation, epidemic prevention task force, and infection control on-site inspection.
