Since 2015, the Integrated Cancer Care Center of MacKay Memorial Hospital has pioneered the "One-day Integrated Care Protocol of Chemotherapy," alongside immunotherapy and breast cancer psychosocial care. Designed for short-term inpatients receiving anti-cancer drugs within 32 hours, the system offers an efficient "9:00 AM admission, 8:00 AM discharge" workflow. Its "Rapid Assessment Mechanism" ensures immediate verification and treatment, minimizing wait times.
Led by 1 physician and 11 RNs (avg. tenure 19.4 years; 8 oncology certified, 5 psycho-oncology trained), the center integrates a multidisciplinary panel-including NPs, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, psychologists, and chaplains—for real-time consults and early distress screenings to address holistic needs.
For safety, the center enforces rigorous protocols and developed the "Smart-Lock Chemotherapy Safety Connector," achieving 0% medication errors and 0% extravasation. This earned the NHQA Bronze Award, certifications for Breast and Head/Neck Cancer Care, and H5P digital training recognition.
Through smart apps and bedside systems, care extends home. Results show a 96.82 score in care cognition, 96.66% in education satisfaction, and side-effect severity dropped from 4.5 to 2.8. With initiatives like bedside concerts (98.86% satisfaction), the center attained a 98.9% overall nursing satisfaction rate, standing as a paradigm of holistic medicine uniting safety, efficiency, and humanistic warmth.
