Cancer patients receiving radiation therapy
Patients at high risk of contrast allergy
Head & neck tumor patients needing precise positioning
Anxious patients needing shorter exam time
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Cathay General Hospital uses AI algorithms to accurately identify carotid arteries in non-contrast CT scans, providing precise references for radiation therapy simulation. Three key advantages: (1) improved image recognition shortens tumor delineation time; (2) slow contrast injection reduces allergy rates from 13% to 1.2%; (3) same-day online image verification ensures accurate tumor targeting. The technique is now routinely used: 113 AI-assisted identifications, 162 slow contrast simulations, and 4,097 online verifications annually. Presented at the ASQUA international conference, the hospital also holds MOHW Cancer Care Quality Certification (Excellent, valid 2020-2026). This innovation combines AI technology with quality management to deliver safe, personalized cancer care.
