Founded in 1959, the Department of Ophthalmology at TVGH is dedicated to "Myopia Prevention" and "Treatment of High Myopia Complications." The project implements a "three-stage, five-level" prevention strategy, integrating with the "Taipei City High Myopia Prevention Program" launched in 2013 to establish a protective network across medical centers, schools, and families. We provide early screening and control for students, and advanced treatments for adults with complications—such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, and maculopathy—using cutting-edge technologies like Femtosecond Laser Cataract Surgery, SS-OCT diagnostics, and MIGS (Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery) to provide holistic eye health management.

This project successfully popularized the concept of "Myopia is a Disease." Through long-term tracking (MIT Project), it has produced influential international papers and established a localized myopia control strategy for Taiwan. This model has significantly reduced vision impairment rates in Taipei and created a replicable community prevention network, providing vital guidelines for high myopia prevention in East Asian populations and reducing the long-term burden on the National Health Insurance system.
