TCVGH ERAS Team Led by the Department of Anesthesiology, the TCVGH Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Team has established a comprehensive perioperative care pathway, covering surgical outpatient consultation, preoperative optimization, precision anesthesia, and postoperative early feeding and mobilization. TCVGH is the only public medical center in Taiwan officially certified by the ERAS Society (October 18, 2021), under the mentorship of Tan Tock Seng Hospital (Singapore) and Professor Olle Ljungqvist of Örebro University (Sweden). The hospital has also received accreditation for pain management and joint replacement care quality.
Key innovations include:
Taiwan’s first ERAS outpatient clinic model, featuring dedicated ERAS consultation rooms, ERAS coordinators, and an official LINE communication platform.
Taiwan’s first immersive 360-degree VR patient education program.
Taiwan’s first ERAS nutrition program with dedicated preoperative and postoperative meals to reduce prolonged fasting.
A multimodal analgesia and pain management system with real-time pain monitoring and opioid-equivalent dose conversion. Since implementation, the program has achieved a 60% reduction in length of stay (compared with 33% in France and 29% in the Netherlands), reduced overall complications from 38.5% to 17.4%, reduced major complications from 7.7% to 1.2%, and improved ERAS compliance from 43.4% to 78.6%, demonstrating substantial improvements in surgical recovery and quality of care."
