Description

With the explosion of information and the advent of the post-pandemic era, clinical laboratory medicine is facing greater challenges, including a shortage of manpower due to declining birth rates. Establishing effective lean laboratory processes has become a major priority. For example, the Taipei Branch of Mackay Memorial Hospital has a monthly blood sampling demand of approximately 50,000 cases, which has surpassing the capacity of the current transportation system. Additionally, in the laboratory, the increased failure rate of the long-term use of fully automated systems has hindered workflow efficiency. Therefore, drawing from past experiences, we have proposed improvement plans for pre-, intra-, and post-examination stages, with a particular focus on seamless integration between stages, aiming to establish a comprehensive and smooth operational system to address existing issues in the workflow. The design of the new automated system aims to reduce workflow interruptions, simplify processes, and enhance efficiency. After completion of examinations, the implementation of intelligent information systems will facilitate rapid issuance of reports to clinical units, alleviating manpower pressures while laying a solid foundation for future development.
