The Center integrated medical care and community support models to establish a person-centered, family-oriented holistic care platform for dementia. In addition to providing precise diagnosis and essential care services for individuals with dementia, the center also enhances support for daily living, leisure activities, employment guidance, and caregiver consultations.
Nationwide Pioneer: The first cross-disciplinary integration of community and medical care that is centered on the individual and oriented around the families.
Empowering Independence: Supported the establishment of "Ching-Huo Cabin" (清活小屋),the first service center dedicated to young-onset dementia in Taiwan.
National First: Launched the nation’s first service center specializing in young-onset dementia.
Academic Innovation: Partnered with academic institutions to become the first medical university in the nation to offer sub-specialty training in dementia.
Cultural Inclusion: Collaborated with National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts to establish the nation’s first dementia-friendly art museum.
Vocational Breakthrough: Assisting the first young-onset person with dementia to return to the workplace in Central Taiwan.
Industry Leadership: Initiated the first-ever "National Conference on Young-Onset Dementia."
Annual Service Volume: Our center serves 526 dementia patients annually, including 44 cases of young-onset dementia (YOD), accounting for 8.4% of our total and ranking among the top three nationwide.
YOD Classifications: Degenerative (80%), Vascular (15%), and other types (5%).
Behavioral Symptoms: Notably, 68% of these dementia patients exhibit behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD).
CSMU Hospital Impact: Chung Shan Medical University Hospital serves over 500 dementia patients each year. Among them, young-onset dementia accounts for 8% of the annual total (well above the national average of 4.5%), placing us in the top three nationwide.
Family Support: By serving over 50 YOD cases, we bring stability to both the patients and their families.
Talent Cultivation: Over the past five years, we have trained 325 medical and healthcare students across 13 departments to pursue careers in dementia care.
Award Recognition: The Center received a Gold Award at the 3rd Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards (TSAA).
Inter-departmental Collaboration: In collaboration with the Central Taiwan Science Park Bureau of the Ministry of Labor and the Labor Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government, we organized seminars that attracted 106 participants.
Volunteer Training: Conducted various training sessions every year for 80 volunteers at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMOFA).
Anti-Lost Subsidies: We assist financially disadvantaged individuals at risk of wandering to apply for subsidies for anti-lost smartwatches.
Real-time Notifications: The care team receives instant Telegram notifications whenever a registered case is admitted to our emergency department or hospitalized.
Family Feedback: Caregivers and family members report that these measures effectively help track the patients' whereabouts and significantly reduce anxiety.
Global Representation: Invited by the Health Promotion Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare to represent Taiwan at the 2022 Global International Forum, where we introduced young-onset dementia and Taiwan’s approach to the leaders of health departments from 20 diplomatic allies.
International Exchange: At least three diplomatic allies are planning substantive, follow-up exchanges with us.
Keynote Sharing: Invited to share our insights at the 2022 Global Health and Welfare Forum.
Top Honors: Won 1st place at the Taichung Long-Term Care Oscars, also known as the "Golden Care Awards."
Policy Alignment: Taiwan has become the second country in Asia to align with the WHO's Global Action Plan on Dementia.
