childhood acute myeloid leukemia
Since 1997, our team has developed a national treatment plan for childhood acute myeloid leukemia (AML), raising the national cure rate to 60%. In 2001, we introduced a new generation treatment plan for acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), achieving a 93% cure rate. In 2012, we pioneered the "Team Resource Management" model to provide comprehensive care for pediatric patients, earning the Most Valuable Team recognition from the Joint Commission of Taiwan.
In 2014, our team established dedicated pediatric cancer case managers and a Pediatric Cancer Committee to enhance the quality of case management and consultation services. In 2019, we received the SNQ Silver Medal for Biotechnology and Healthcare for interdisciplinary treatment of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In 2020, we formed a pediatric brain tumor team and an integrated outpatient clinic to offer multi-disciplinary collaborative care. In 2021, we launched several specialized outpatient clinics to provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services. In 2022, our team established a pediatric palliative care unit to deliver holistic end-of-life care for terminally ill children and their families. These innovative measures have significantly improved the quality of care and cure rates for childhood cancers.
The innovative AML 97A chemotherapy protocol for childhood acute myeloid leukemia has significantly improved patient cure rates. The cure rate for Mackay Children's AML cases (excluding Type 3 AML) is the highest reported globally, with a 5-year survival rate of 78.6%.
The innovative treatment approach for hyperleukocytosis in childhood AML minimizes treatment-related complications, reduces early mortality, and enhances cure rates.
The innovative supportive care strategies for childhood AML reduce life-threatening bacterial and fungal infections during chemotherapy, thereby improving disease cure rates.
As a leader in Asia, we introduced several new drugs for the treatment of childhood AML, reducing treatment-related side effects and improving cure rates. Relevant research papers have been published for reference by other countries and regions.
