Target Population

  • Children and adolescents with acute, critical, complex, and rare diseases

  • Children in remote areas, offshore islands, and medically underserved regions

Description

Taipei Medical University Hospital is committed to the principles of “child-centered care” and “maximizing children’s rights.” By integrating in-hospital pediatric subspecialty teams with regional healthcare resources, the hospital has established Taiwan’s first institutionally operated Children-Friendly Healthcare Network. Through cross-hospital integration, a green-channel referral system, outreach services, and attending physician outpatient support, pediatric subspecialists regularly provide outpatient care and clinical consultations at partner institutions and in medically underserved areas. This model enhances healthcare accessibility for children with acute, critical, complex, and rare diseases, effectively reducing disparities between rural and urban regions.

In clinical practice, the program incorporates micro-blood sampling, child-specific examination workflows, multimedia patient education, and non-pharmacological therapeutic interventions such as music and art therapy to reduce anxiety during medical care. Case managers further provide comprehensive medical navigation and cross-disciplinary coordination, ensuring holistic, family-centered integrated care.
