Resident physicians
In 2020, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, announced future directions for reforming specialist physician training, emphasizing cross-level joint training and the development of milestone-based training frameworks. Since 2002, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Cardinal Tien Hospital has proactively established a cross-level joint training program for otolaryngology residents, integrating subspecialty training across medical centers, regional hospitals, and district teaching hospitals. For more than two decades, the program has maintained a strong commitment to high-quality education and training. Since 2017, the team has further advanced Competency-Based Medical Education, including the development of localized otolaryngology milestones, integrated formative assessment through Entrustable Professional Activities, and full implementation of the Clinical Competence Committee. The team has published eight medical education journal articles and secured two multi-year medical education research grants from the National Science and Technology Council in the past three years. In 2021, the department also joined the Joint Commission of Taiwan’s pilot project for the Competence Progress Information Platform, Emyway. Through this application for the Symbol of National Quality, we hope to share this long-standing effort and further strengthen the national advancement of Competency-Based Medical Education in specialist training.
