Families in northern Kaohsiung and underserved areas.
Our team actively promotes holistic maternal and child-friendly care. Beyond in-hospital initiatives, we extend comprehensive maternal and child-friendly concepts to families in northern Kaohsiung and underserved areas through home visits. Additionally, we organize various seminars and courses in communities and regional hospitals, equipping relevant professionals with fundamental medical knowledge and updated concepts in maternal and child care. This collaborative effort aims to support children and families in need. The Department of Pediatrics at E-Da Hospital remains committed to the mission of holistic healthcare, dedicating itself to safeguarding the health of infants and children in northern Kaohsiung, ensuring the well-being of the nation's future leaders.
Family-Centered Integrated Care via Case Management This model delivers continuous care through needs assessment, case discussions, and post-discharge telephone follow-ups. Partnering with the child protection team, case managers establish maternal-child friendly environments for rural and underserved families. The team provides medical and emotional support to boost parents' confidence and self-identity in caregiving.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Discharge Planning Physicians, nurses, and social workers collaborate to provide patient-centered services and structured child protection protocols. For very low birth weight (VLBW) infants, multi-specialty discharge meetings evaluate clinical readiness, caregiver education, and social resources. Post-discharge follow-ups systematically monitor neurodevelopmental and cognitive progress.
Extending Continuity of Care for Smoke-Free Homes Certified as advanced smoking cessation educators, maternal and child case managers screen for tobacco dependence at the bedside. Personalized cessation education begins during hospitalization and extends into the post-discharge home environment, empowering families to maintain smoke-free households.
Number of Individuals Served:
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Health Promotion Administration under the "Smoking Cessation Service Subsidy Program for Medical Institutions," the maternal and child-friendly case managers record the number of individuals and service instances provided with health education into the smoking cessation service system.
Case managers also admit premature infants and child protection cases that meet the inclusion criteria.
Achievements In 2023, in collaboration with the Kaohsiung City Government Health Bureau, our hospital's smoking cessation services were recognized with the Excellence Award.

Continuous Certification as a Baby-Friendly Hospital Since first achieving Baby-Friendly Hospital certification in 2006, our hospital has consistently upheld the philosophy of holistic care for mothers and families, promoting and implementing maternal and child-friendly policies. In 2022, we successfully renewed our certification, and in 2023, we completed the follow-up certification process.
Breastfeeding Advocacy and Clinical Skill Enhancement Our hospital has a qualified breastfeeding seed instructor accredited by the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Health Promotion Administration. This instructor has successfully renewed their certification and conducts annual assessments of clinical staff's knowledge, attitudes, and skills using the "Clinical Breastfeeding Skills Checklist" developed by the Joint Association for Breastfeeding Promotion. These assessments, carried out through simulated practice, enhance the breastfeeding techniques of maternal and child healthcare professionals.
