Victims of domestic violence and child abuse who seek medical treatment and injury assessments at E-Da Hospital.
A compassionate healthcare environment and victim-friendly follow-up protocols were established for victims of domestic violence and child abuse. Active encouragement and appointment tracking were implemented to improve post-discharge follow-up attendance. To reduce barriers to care, the hospital’s social service fund provided a waiver for the first follow-up visit. Furthermore, an interdisciplinary team approach was adopted to develop a coordinated follow-up care model, ensuring continuity of care and promoting the physical and psychological well-being of victims.

The Protection Team Continuously Encourages Domestic Violence Victims to Attend Follow-up Appointments Miss Lian was injured on her face and limbs by her cohabiting boyfriend and was accompanied by the police to our hospital for injury assessment and treatment. After the emergency team assisted with the assessment and treatment, she was scheduled for a follow-up appointment in family medicine the following week. However, on the day of her appointment, the family medicine physician noticed that Miss Lian did not attend as scheduled, so her case was referred to a social worker for follow-up. After the social worker contacted Miss Lian, it was discovered that she was considering seeking further medical attention to assess her recovery. However, as a person from an economically disadvantaged background with limited education, she was unfamiliar with medical knowledge and processes, feared going to the hospital alone, and was reluctant to spend money on medical care due to difficulties in affording basic needs. Upon understanding Miss Lian's situation, the social worker proactively assisted her in rescheduling her family medicine appointment. On the day of her appointment, the social worker accompanied her to the consultation and discussed the subsequent treatment plan with the family medicine physician. As a result, Miss Lian was evaluated by the physician and referred to a psychiatric specialist to address her physical and mental well-being.
