Hospitalization and rehabilitation after acute burns
In 1979, owing to the explosion of the navy ammunition depot and the importance of burn care in military medicine, the burn care ward was founded. Latter, the burn care center was established in 1983, which was the earliest burn care center among the southern Taiwan. Because of the well performing in burn care, the hospital set up the only one burn care demonstration ward in southern Taiwan with Childhood Burn Foundation of The Republic of China in 1995. As the leader of the burn care medicine, our team has piled up plenty of clinical experiences in these years. We served more than 250 burn patients annually, with patients suffering from extensive burns accounting for over 60% of those treated at the Burn Center. Through a multidisciplinary team consisting of physicians from infectious disease, cardiology, nephrology, and chest medicine, along with pharmacists, nurses, dietitians, physical and occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, and social workers, we integrate medical resources to provide comprehensive care, achieving a survival rate of 88% among critically ill burn patients.
