People with dementia and their caregivers in Pingxi District.
New Taipei City has the largest population of people living with dementia in Taiwan. To strengthen the community care system, the city government formulated the New Taipei City Dementia Prevention and Care Policy Framework and Action Plan and established an interdepartmental task force to integrate resources. Centered on a people-focused care network, the initiative advances public–private collaboration to progressively build a dementia-friendly New Taipei City.
Since 2020, the city government has launched the Ageless Wisdom Village in Pingxi District—the oldest administrative district in Taiwan—as a model dementia-friendly community. Through open-space meetings, the project has built local consensus and integrated community residents, organizations, the environment, and smart technologies. Key strategies include establishing a comprehensive care network, promoting dementia-friendly awareness, introducing smart technologies, and improving supportive environments. Building on the successful experience in Pingxi, the model has been expanded to other districts across New Taipei City, with the goal of completing dementia-friendly communities in all 29 districts by the end of 2025, enabling families affected by dementia to age in place with peace of mind. The initiative has achieved significant outcomes, receiving multiple national and international recognitions, and has become a leading benchmark for dementia-friendly community development nationwide.
