Prevenar 20 (PCV20) covers 20 clinically important serotypes with coverage rate of IPD serotypes of over 50%. While the PCV13 vaccine has significantly reduced IPD incidence in children, emerging serotypes like 15B have high resistance rate to antibiotics, and PCV20 can expand protection to it. For adults, pneumonia is the third leading cause of death in Taiwan. PCV20 simplifies the vaccination process, reducing the previous two-dose schedule to a single dose. It can potentially help to improve vaccination rates. PCV20 has clear advantages in serotype coverage and simplified vaccination schedule. It inherits Pfizer's PCV legacy, with the FDA recognizing the efficacy and safety data of PCV13 applicable to PCV20. Pfizer's PCV is the only pneumococcal vaccine that has completed clinical trials for pneumonia, showing 45% efficacy against vaccine-type pneumonia. Phase III clinical trials have proved that PCV20 has good immunogenicity and safety across different age groups (infants, children, and adults), meeting non-inferiority standards and demonstrating good safety and tolerability. PCV20 has obtained formal approval from Taiwan's TFDA and has secured multiple related invention patents to ensure technical protection. In summary, Pfizer's PCV20 pneumococcal vaccine is not only technologically advanced but also clinically proven, with broad serotype coverage and simplified vaccination procedures, making a significant contribution to public health in Taiwan.
